Haiwen Edward Liu Delivers Lectures on International Contract Law and Foreign-Related Legal Practice

Haiwen & Partners is pleased to share that Edward Liu, Partner of the Firm’s Hong Kong office, recently delivered two lectures on international contract law and foreign-related legal practice.

2026年5月9日，刘洋律师应邀在天津仲裁委员会“国际商事仲裁理论与实务”系列课程中授课，主讲题为“国际合同法第六讲：误述与错误——英国法体系下的合同自始无效与可撤销”。该系列课程由津冀多家机构联合主办，并由最高人民法院国际商事法庭专家委员会成员、香港国际仲裁中心名誉主席杨良宜教授策划及领衔。作为津冀两地机构首次协同推进的涉外仲裁专题培训项目，该系列课程立足涉外法律实务需求，旨在加强仲裁专业人才培养，推动京津冀地区仲裁服务协同发展。

On May 9, 2026, Mr. Liu was invited to lecture at the Tianjin Arbitration Commission’s “International Commercial Arbitration Theory and Practice” series, where he presented “International Contract Law Lecture 6: Misrepresentation and Mistake — Void and Voidable Contracts under the English Law System”. Jointly organised by multiple institutions in Tianjin and Hebei, and designed and led by Professor Philip Yang, the series is the first coordinated foreign-related arbitration training initiative jointly advanced by institutions in the two regions. It is intended to respond to practical international legal needs, strengthen arbitration talent development, and support the coordinated growth of arbitration services in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

在本次讲座中，刘洋律师系统讲解了英国法下有关误述与错误的核心法律原则，包括自始无效、可撤销及不可执行合同之间的区分，并结合国际商事交易、仲裁协议及跨境争议场景，分析了相关法律规则的实践意义。

In his lecture, Mr. Liu discussed key English law principles relating to misrepresentation and mistake, including the distinction between void, voidable and unenforceable contracts, as well as their relevance to international commercial transactions, arbitration agreements and cross-border disputes.

此外，2026年5月8日，刘洋律师还应邀在河北工业大学人文与法律学院“法律事务系列讲座”第十九期进行题为“如何成长为一名处理涉外业务的合格律师”的讲座，围绕职业发展路径、国际法律实务，以及新一代涉外律师所需具备的核心能力展开分享。

Separately, on May 8, 2026, Mr. Liu also spoke at the 19th Legal Affairs Lecture Series hosted by the School of Humanities and Law of Hebei University of Technology, where he delivered a lecture titled “How to Grow into a Competent Lawyer Handling Foreign-Related Matters.” The session focused on professional development, international legal practice and the capabilities required of the next generation of foreign-related lawyers.
